DANCE COMPANY

Who We Are

Khambatta Dance Company (KDC) connects artists and audiences through the exploration of contemporary issues, emotionally resonant performances, and a collaborative process of dance creation. KDC tours nationally and internationally, intentionally cultivating networks of support with other dance artists.

Since 2006, the Seattle International Dance Festival, KDC’s signature program, unifies communities and celebrates the city’s neighborhoods by showcasing the work of local, regional, national and international dance artists who exemplify the diversity of contemporary dance.

"daunting themes are harmoniously translated"

“Daunting Themes are harmoniously translated by [Artistic Director] Cyrus Khambatta. Equally beautiful was the minimal set design, which was perfectly accompanied by the matching lighting design and of course the excellent dancers. They convinced with highly technical precision: their dance was exact and syncopated, very graceful and simply stunning.”

The Company

KDC is a six-member company of dancers led by Artistic Director Cyrus Khambatta. The company members share in the creative process of the work presented in Seattle while acting as ambassadors to our city. KDC dancers travel the world representing Seattle, performing what is for many audiences their first time witnessing contemporary dance from our city and region. Chosen for their high technical ability and diverse skills, the eclectic group brings an array of talent to the company. Together with the company’s board, KDC is also racially diverse with over half its members POC or biracial.

From the Seattle International Dance Festival, to the Mini Fest, dance intensives, open rehearsals and community-building fundraisers...
KDC creates one to two major new works each year, many of which travel the world and win awards. Take a tour of our works!
In addition to its dancers, KDC supports over 30 companies and 150 local artists a year, and half its audiences attend for free.
